The Arts Council of Australia ACT Division constitutied in 1962. Earlier ACT branches had existed as early as 1945, when the ACT Division of the Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA) presented concerts and arts festivals. A special committee of the Canberrar Repertory Society carried out the work of the Arts Council in the ACT from 1953 until 1962. The Social Committee was a shortlived sub-committee, commencing in February 1963. Its main function was to organise refreshments at Division performances and events. The founding Convenor was Phoebe Bischoff. This collection is comprised of a single exercise book which contains an alphabetical listing nanes and addresses of attending members, duties performed at specific events and Convenor's reports. The Social Committee appears to have ceased activity in late 1968. At the back of the book is a record of the commencement of Arts Council "Drop-ins". These were held on the first Wednedsay of each month from 7 April 1976. The name of duty officer and monies taken are recorded 07/04/1976-April 1978.
