Services and programs
Quiet Hour
Libraries ACT has Quiet Hour sessions every week. The aim is to create a lower sensory setting to make our libraries accessible to all.
During Quiet Hour, the library:
- has no programs running on the public library floor
- reduces lighting where possible
- only uses the announcement system for emergencies and closing
- turns down our phones and computers
- keeps conversations low
- displays signage to advise the community of the Quiet Hour
Everyone is welcome to visit and enjoy the quieter library environment. No bookings are necessary. See Quiet Hour for information on times and locations.
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative
Libraries ACT supports the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program which encourages people to wear a sunflower pin or lanyard if they need extra help, understanding or more time. Staff have undertaken training to better understand hidden disabilities and provide tailored support.
If you need extra support, look for staff wearing Sunflower lanyards or staff supporter pins.
Auslan interpreting service
Auslan (Australian Sign Language) interpreting is available at all Library ACT branches. The video interpreting service is provided by Convo Australia. Customers can scan a QR code, available within the libraries, with their own device and connect with an Auslan interpreter at no cost.
Website accessibility
We aim to make the Libraries ACT website accessible to as many people as possible.
