Discover Rapid Reads, a Libraries ACT collection of fiction and non-fiction books that are easy to read and hard to put down.
This collection will hold books on popular topics and with clear writing. They are on engaging and relatable topics of interest especially to our tweens, teens and basically anyone who is keen to get through to the last page quickly!
These books are great for readers who want to develop their confidence in reading, build their comprehension and fluency skills, and expand their vocabulary. They are designed to provide the reader a positive reading experience. Or if you just want a fast, engaging story.
They are also suitable for our readers for whom English is an additional language.
Rapid Reads books have fewer words, shorter paragraphs and simpler sentences. These books have brief chapters, focusing on short episodes in the plot with a lot of dialogue.
The new Rapid Reads collection will have both fiction and non-fiction books covering a wide range of themes and topics. The fiction books are action-packed with highly engaging plots and dialogues in genres such as crime and thriller, romance, science fiction, fantasy and adventure. Similarly, the non-fiction books will tackle current and fascinating topics with information that is engaging, curious, and/or awe-inspiring to maintain the reader’s interest. These books will be well illustrated with photographs, charts, infographics and diagrams.
If you’re after a gripping read, don’t forget our Graphic Novels. Graphic Novels use illustrations as an important part of storytelling, which builds textual, visual and spatial literacies. They too are fast-paced and action-packed. Popular examples are Baby-Sitters Club, Heartstopper, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Raina Telgemeier series (Smile, Sisters, Drama, and Ghosts).
