Oral History recordings

The ACT Goverment supported a major oral history program through the Canberra Museum and Gallery and the National Library of Australia.  All of these oral histories are held at the National Library.

The State Library of NSW holds copies of oral histories with interviewees from the Snow Mountains and Monaro regions including firefighters, community members, and National Parks and Wildlife representatives.

Other material can be found at memory institutions in the ACT and NSW. Links are made to the locations of all items.

Canberra Bushfires 2003 oral history project interviews 1-8

A set of interviews recorded by historians Mary Hutchison and Margo Harker exploring the effect of disaster on the individual's relationships with their social, natural and built environments, and citizenship and community in a disaster. The project was conducted in association with Canberra Museum and Art Gallery. Recorded between Mar. 12, 2004 and Feb. 19, 2007 at various locations throughout the Australian Capital Territory.

Snowy Mountains Bushfires of 2003 Spirit and Survival oral history project

Interviews by Louise Darmody, commissioned by the Snowy Mountains Bushfire Recovery Taskforce document the experiences of people who were impacted by the 2003 Snowy Mountain bushfires. Interviewees include firefighters, community members, and National Parks and Wildlife representatives.
