HMSS 0497 Canberra Lacemakers Association Records

The Canberra Lacemakers Association is a community social group of people interested in the craft of lacemaking. It was commenced in Canberra in 1978 (formalised in 1979) and continues to this day.

Collection consists of records relating to the establishment of the Association as well as minutes of meetings, financial records, membership records, scrapbooks and items relating to significant events relating to the Canberra Lacemakers.

Series 1: Governance Records

Collection of papers relating to the establishment of the Canberra Lacemakers Association. Includes a copies of the Constitution as at 1995 and 2001 (the original constitution is missing), Incorporation documents, and documents submitted to the ACT Office of Regulatory Services, 2006-2016.

Series 2: Membership Records

Collection of membership records, including membership lists and attendance records. Includes a handwritten list of names and addresses of the foundation members of the Association, 1978-1979. Attendance records consist of 3 notebooks containing signatures of members attending meetings and workshops.

Series 3: General Meeting Minutes

Minutes of quarterly meetings of the Canberra Lacemakers Association. Minutes include details such as the date and time of the meeting, who was in attendance, apologies, presidents’ and treasurers’ reports, mail and other business. Minutes are types or handwritten.

Series 4: Financial Records

Collection of audited financial reports relating to the Canberra Lacemakers Association dating from 1990. Records from 1978 to 1989 no longer exist.

Series 5: Annual General Meeting Minutes

Collection of Annual General Meeting (AGM) minutes dating from 1989 to 2016. No records relating to the AGM exist earlier than 1989. Meeting minutes for 1991 and 2006 were missing at the time of donation. Includes some agendas. Includes presidents’ and treasurers’ reports. Also includes items relating to the nomination of office bearers.

Series 6: Scrapbooks

Collection of scrapbooks kept by Margaret Dean who became and member of the Canberra Lacemakers Association in 1983 and is a Life Member of the Association. The scrapbooks, which are keep in magnetic photograph albums, date from 1984 to 2008. The scrapbooks include photographs of lacemaking projects, displays and events, awards and ribbons, news cuttings, samples of lace.

Series 7: Significant Events

Collection of items relating to significant events in the history of the Canberra Lacemakers Association. Includes items relating to a gift of lace presented to the New Parliament House in 1988 (as endorsed Bicentennial activity); a gift of lace presented to the Governor General of Australia in 2011; the 30 ^th Anniversary of the Canberra Lacemakers in 2009; and items relating to other Anniversaries. Includes correspondence, certificates, booklets, promotional material, photographs, and patterns.
