During NAIDOC Week 2012, photographer Darren Clark held an exhibition at the CSIRO Discovery Centre on Clunies Ross Drive in Action. Titled Darren Clark – From Daly to Darwin, the exhibition featured images from Clark’s work documenting Indigenous culture in the Daly River Basin of the Northern Territory. During the exhibition opening on 28 June, Clark met Shane Mortimer, an Ngambri elder who introduced himself as the traditional owner of Canberra. Clark expressed his interest in taking some portrait photographs of Mortimer around Canberra.
This collection is comprised of three digital photographs taken as part of this photo shoot in October 2012. The collection includes two photographs of Shane Mortimer on top of Mount Taylor and one portrait in front of the High Court. Mortimer is wearing his possum skin cloak in all three portraits.
