Margaret Ruth Hearne (18 May 1935 – 12 December 2007) was born in Cootamundra to Lila and Jack Hearne. She was educated at Coomundra Primary and High Schools and then worked at the Cootamundra telephone exchange. She moved to Canberra in the early 1960s to work on the telephone switchboard at the Departments of Immigration and Foreign Affairs and Trade, until her retirement in 1996.

She was a fine cook, winning prizes at agricultural shows for her cakes, and an accomplished pianist. In retirement she took up pottery, calligraphy and lavender arrangement. Earlier, Margaret joined the VADs (Volunteer Aid Detachment), assisting service personnel on their return from overseas conflicts. She was involved in the Scout movement for many years, and in 1993 received the 15-year Long Service medal for her service as a Scout leader. She also joined several community support groups, including the Spiral Club, an organisation for the elderly.

This collection consists of 34 black and white photographs of Canberra buildings, taken by Margaret about 1966.
