In 1963, the Department of Defence moved its operations to Canberra. In anticipation of moving their family to Canberra, Dorothy Wood and her husband Alan Wood, visited in 1962.
They took photographs of the government housing types, known locally as "guvvies", available to them on transfer and collected publications and ephemera about government housing in Canberra, planning regulations and Department of Defence entitlements.
