The ACT BMW Owners Club was formed on 29 March 1981. In June 1981 the name was changed to ACT BMW Motorcycle Club (ACT BMW MCC) to reflect more accurately the membership of the club. The club was incorporated on 3 August 1992. In 2010 the name was changed again to BMW Motorcycle Club ACT (BMW MCC ACT). It affiliated with the Council of ACT Motor Clubs in 1985, BMW Motorcycle Clubs Australia in 1988, BMW Motor Clubs in 1991, and the International Council of BMW Clubs in 1994

From 1982 the club has held an annual social Kosciusko rally and camp, and undertakes both local and interstate touring runs for members. The club actively participates in combined events with other clubs, including the annual Toy Run for toys and donations of food and money to the Smith Family and Salvation Army at Christmas. The club’s monthly newsletter, Shaft Drive Lines, is held in the ACT Heritage Library.

The collection consists of minutes, financial papers, correspondence, lists of members, some newsletters from other clubs and motorcycle distributors, and club badges, flags and other realia.
