The First Canberra Garden Club had limited membership and a long waiting list. It encouraged and assisted the formation of the Second Canberra Garden Club in 1966. Similarly, the Second Canberra Garden Club fostered the formation of the Third Canberra Garden Club in 1970.
Membership of the Second Canberra Garden Club was open only to women until 1976.
The Club arranges regular meetings, excursions and events for members. Winter meetings were held in the Griffin Centre between 1966 and 1986, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 1986-2006 and at the Pearce Community Centre since May 2006.
