Reid Preschool opened in October/November 1945. The first preschool in Canberra, Reid was the second early childhood education centre, opening 18 months after the Canberra Nursery School at Acton. Initially known as a Play Centre, its design and function became the standard. It was made an annexe of Ainslie Primary School in 2008.
The collection consists mainly of minutes of various committees and action groups, correspondence, and background papers and documents relating to the challenge the Association mounted against partial closure in 1999. It also includes digital recordings of two films made of the Preschool in 1959, and of the 60th anniversary celebrations in 2005.
