John Grunder came from Germany to Australia in 1957, living at the St Albans hostel before settling in Canberra.
Mr Grunder worked in the construction industry and visited both Sydney and Melbourne. There are images of Canberra from the late 1950s to the late 1960s as well as images of Sydney and Melbourne that were evidently taken on holiday trips.
Mr Grunder died in 2009. These 103 colour photographic slides were offered to the National Film and Sound Archive by a friend of Mr Gunder’s, Alison Martin, in late 2009 and subsequently to the Canberra Museum and Gallery who transferred them to the ACT Heritage Library in March 2011.
