Earl Ewers is a keen amateur photographer with special interest in buses, trams and cars. Because of this shared interest, his friend Colin Robertson gave Earl his extensive collection of slides of buses and trams around Australia; Colin’s slides in this collection are just those relating to Canberra.
Earl worked in the Department of Territories, and took the opportunity to record the view from the top of the Nara Building which was the Department’s new home. He also recognised the importance of recording the older buildings of Canberra which were soon to be demolished, such as the Barton Offices.
Many of these photographs record the Bicentenary, the first Floriade, and the other events of 1988.
