Reconciliation in the ACT grew out of consultations run by CAPOW (Coalition of Australian Participating Organisations of Women) prior to the 1997 Reconciliation Convention in 1997. Members had a number of motivations: to meet Aboriginal people; to speak up against racism in their own circles; to build a strong reconciliation movement initiatied by non-Indigenous people.
