A Women's Public Service Softball Competition was inaugurated in 1954. Competition was between teams representing Commonwealth Departments.
In August 1956, the Interdepartmental Association affiliated with the NSW Softball Association.
When the ACT Women's Softball Association formed in 1959, the Interdepartmental Association affiliated with that body.
The Interdepartmental competition ceased in 1995.
