The 'Woden Valley Flood' occurred on 26 January 1971 when a sudden severe thunderstorm followed by torrential rain caused flooding. Carmel Anne Smith, Margaret Mary Smith, Michael John Smith, Jennifer Ann Seymour, Dianne Elizabeth Seymour, Lon Victor Cumberland and Roderick Dumeresq Simon died at the Melrose Drive, Yamba Drive and Yarra Glen intersection or further down Yarra Glen. Much damage was also caused to public and private property.
These papers record the efforts of the victims' families to have a memorial established in their memory. It is comprised of copies of correspondence, reports and news cuttings compiled by Neville J. Gallagher and donated by him.
