Connect with your local community with these new library programs

Programs designed to bring people together, build skills and strengthen community connections.

We’re excited to be offering new programs during February, March and April that help people connect with the local community. These programs are part of a partnership between the Australian Library and Information Association and the Commonwealth Government’s Office for Social Cohesion.

Check out what’s on below.

How to Spot Misinformation and Find Facts

Learn how to think critically and get simple tips for identifying what’s real and what’s fake. Discover how to spot misinformation and how social media and AI work. These information sessions are for adults and will be held at the following libraries:

  • Woden – Tuesday 10 February, 1:00pm to 2:00pm
  • Kippax – Thursday 19 February, 2:00pm to 3:00pm
  • Gungahlin – Thursday 19 March, 2:00pm to 3:00pm
  • Tuggeranong – Saturday 28 March, 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Repair Café at the Library

Contribute to the circular economy by getting help from volunteer repairers from Community Toolbox Canberra. Repairers will be at Woden Library to help fix items and provide advice. This is a great chance to bring along items that are broken or not working, learn from the volunteers, and meet new people. Suitable for adults and young adults.

  • Woden – Sunday 15 February, 12:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Woden – Sunday 22 March, 12:30pm to 3:30pm

Bookings are not necessary for this activity. More information is on our events page for 15 February and 22 March.

Novel Communi-tea

Build connections at a book-club-like discussion of stories and authors, shared over a freshly made cup of tea (or several). Join library facilitators for a free-flowing discussion. The sessions will be focused on stories and authors from the Middle East and India including the surrounding subcontinent. No need to bring anything along – books, tea, inspiration, and nibbles will be provided. Suitable for adults and young adults.

  • Woden – Monday 16 March, 5:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Woden – Monday 20 April, 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Bookings are recommended. You can book your place today via our events page for 16 March and 20 April.

Woden Live!

Sit in on a podcast recording from a popular program and explore how creating a podcast can contribute to community discussion, debate and civic engagement. Learn about developing your own podcast idea and test our podcasting technology, with information and guidance from industry experts. Suitable for adults and young adults.

  • Woden – Saturday 7 March, 1:30pm to 3:30pm (featuring Radio 1RPH)
  • Woden – Saturday 11 April, 1:30pm to 3:30pm (featuring Sci_Burst)
