Truth Be Told: Libraries ACT celebrates Library and Information Week 2026

This Library and Information Week, Libraries ACT invites the community to explore the power of truth in an increasingly complex information world.

Libraries ACT is proud to present a program of events and activities for Library and Information Week 2026, encouraging the Canberra community to explore this year’s theme, ‘Truth Be Told.’

Observed annually across Australia, Library and Information Week is a dedicated time to recognise the vital role libraries, librarians, and information professionals play in supporting literacy, lifelong learning, and community connection. In 2026, the theme highlights the importance of navigating an increasingly complex information landscape, where the ability to question, verify, and understand information is more important than ever.

Supporting informed and connected communities

‘Truth Be Told’ focuses on how libraries support communities to confidently engage with information in all its forms. In a world shaped by digital media, rapid communication, and varying sources of information, libraries provide trusted spaces where people can build critical thinking skills and make informed decisions.

Library staff bring a diverse range of expertise, skills, and knowledge to this work. From supporting research and access to reliable resources, to delivering creative and engaging programs, their work helps foster curiosity, learning, and meaningful community connection.

Programs and activities

The week’s program features a range of free and accessible activities across Libraries ACT branches, designed to engage people of all ages and interests.

Library Escape Room: Fact or Fiction

Step into a world where not everything is as it seems in this interactive Library Escape Room challenge.

Participants work together in small groups to solve puzzles, follow clues, and navigate a maze of conflicting information. This immersive experience encourages players to question sources, test what they uncover, and piece together the truth before time runs out.

Designed for groups of 2–6 players and suitable for ages 10+, the challenge can be adapted to suit both young people and adults, with adjustable levels of difficulty. Each session concludes with a facilitated debrief, exploring themes of misinformation, bias, and how we decide what to trust.

Find Your Voice: An Introductory Workshop in Audiobook Recording

Discover how your voice can bring stories to life in this hands-on workshop led by professional voice actor Jay Piza.

Participants will explore the fundamentals of audiobook narration, building confidence in reading aloud while learning how stories are transformed into engaging audio experiences. Through guided exercises, the workshop introduces voice techniques, pacing, and text preparation, along with the basics of the audiobook recording process.

The session also highlights how audiobook production supports accessibility and provides insight into how libraries contribute to projects such as LibriVox. Participants will have the opportunity to view the library’s recording facilities and learn how they can get involved in future recording projects.

Library and Information Week Story Time

Special Library and Information Week-themed Story Time sessions will run from 27 July to 1 August, offering young readers the opportunity to explore ideas around truth, storytelling, and how we understand the world.

Through engaging stories and interactive activities, these sessions encourage curiosity, imagination, and early critical thinking skills, providing a fun and welcoming introduction to the week’s theme.

All activities and workshop are free, however spots are limited, so booking is essential.
