Help feed someone in need
We are welcoming donations of non-perishable food at Libraries ACT from 11 December 2019 to 31 January 2020
All food will be donated to OzHarvest Canberra. They provide food to more than 60 charities in the ACT and by working together we can help support people who are in need both during the festive season and throughout the year.
Please bring food items into any Libraries ACT branches, including the ACT Heritage Library, in person during library opening hours (don’t put them through return chutes).
Only non-perishable, sealed food items will be accepted. Here are some examples of acceptable food items:
* Packet of pasta/rice/cereal
* Tin of soup/tuna/spaghetti/pineapple
* Packet of biscuits/crackers
* Jar of jam/vegemite
* Long life milk
Damaged, broken or out of date items, perishable food, pet food, and non-food items will not be accepted. Here are some examples of items which are not acceptable:
* Bread
* Fruit
* Vegetables
* Meat
* Dairy
* Any items that require refrigeration
* Non-food items
* Dog food/cat food
Now that overdue fines are gone, food donations are being accepted for goodwill which differs from the previous Food for Fines campaigns where donations were traded to reduce library charges.
The Canberra community is a generous one, and we have seen many donations made in the past as simple gestures of giving. We hope to see Canberra community to participate in this very worthy cause and help support other people in our community who need it most.
