Various authorities concerned with building Canberra regularly took photographs of progress, especially during the construction of Lake Burley Griffin. There is at least one official series of annual aerial photographs and an unknown number of unofficial or semi-official aerial photographs including those taken for promotional purposes. At ground level, both official and personal photographic records abound. Additionally, copies were often distributed to interested parties.

This set of 986 35mm colour slides has no known provenance and there is nothing to indicate that they all originate from the same source. It comprises mainly aerial photographs of Lake Burley Griffin but also some taken at ground level, some aerials of suburbs, and a collection particularly of trees in public places. An unusual group consists of images of the rail line servicing the industrial areas of Fyshwick and Kingston, and there is a series on the snap freeze of 1987.
