In June 2001 community theatre director Eulea Kiraly established Alphabet Soup, a drama group for women in the Allawah, Bega and Currong Flats. In 2002 visual arts, creative writing, music and dance were added to the workshop programs, culminating in a reading from a play entitled Top Girls and an associated art exhibition.

Alphabet Soup was partnered by Diabetes Australia – ACT, and the 2001-2002 project was funded by a grant from Healthpact, with the intention of improving the health and lifestyle of the people living in the Flats. The following year, the project was continued by the YWCA and DADA, coordinated by Anna Hueneke, and funded by ACT Housing’s Community Linkages Community Development Program.

The collection consists of documents relating to the grant applications and acquittal, project planning and events, publicity, and evaluation by the participants. It includes photographs and playscripts.
