The Belconnen Community Fun Run was Canberra’s second annual fun run. It was organised by the Belconnen, Ginninderra and Mount Rogers branches of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), and its original convenor was Jon Stanhope. Members managed the event on a voluntary basis. The purpose of the Run was to promote the Australian Labor Party, promote fitness in general and running in particular, and support charitable and community organisations. The proceeds from sponsorships went to a different charity each year.

The first Run was held on 20 September 1981 and, except for 1992 when there were changes to the athletics calendar, was held every year until 2001 when the Australian Labor Party relinquished its organising role. It was revived in 2005 and 2006. Many of Australia’s leading athletes have competed in the Run, notably Robert de Castella and several other Olympians, as well as leading ACT runners, but the Run also caters for more leisurely fun runners including families and school children.

The first Run was 7.6km from Emu Bank and back past the Belconnen Mall; in 1983 a new 8km course went from Emu Bank along the bicycle path around Lake Ginninderra.

The collection consists of annual accumulations of the papers associated with organising each of the Fun Runs: correspondence; financial records; minutes of meetings; lists of competitors and results; flyers, posters and examples of participant’s certificates; photographs; media releases and newscuttings.
