Gungahlin Library

New library planned for Gungahlin

A new library for the Gungahlin community is on its way, with artistic impressions and plans now available. The library will have a contemporary and friendly design and will be about eight times the size of the existing library.

Construction works have already commenced on site for the new library, located on the corner of Hibberson and Gozzard Streets, which is expected to be open in early 2011.

Key features of the library include:

• Learning rooms – spaces which can be used to provide learning opportunities for the community for example creative writing, playgroups, seminars and workshops;
• Dedicated zones for children and youth;
• Media zone with DVDs and CDs;
• Specialised collections such as environment, house and garden, health and wellbeing;
• Enclosed glass space to allow for quite study, reading and research;
• Café;
• Integrated outdoor courtyard space;
• Free internet access;
• RFID and Smart Chute technology; and
• Touch-screen computer catalogues.

The new Gungahlin Library will encourage lifelong learning with community spaces that cater for a range of activities and events suitable to all ages as well as an extensive collection.
