Newspapers are available for reading in the library. They are kept for a maximum of one week.

- Newspapers available at library branches
- Newspapers in community languages available at library branches
- Local and regional newspapers available at the ACT Heritage Library - including many back issues in print/microfilm format
Online newspapers
The library also provides access to newspapers from around the world through online subscriptions on behalf of library members:
- ANZ Newsstand - full text Australian newspapers including The Canberra Times
- ANZ Reference Centre - full text Australian newpaper and magazine articles
- General One File - full text Australian and International newpaper and magzine articles
- Library Press Display - facsimile copies of hundreds of Australian and international newspapers
