What is the Home Library Service?

 

The Home Library Service (HLS) is for those people who are aged, ill, physically unable to get about, or physically unable to handle print material. If you cannot visit a library, but love to read, the library will come to you.

 

Apply for the Home Library Service

Home Library Service 

To apply for the Home Library Service, contact the library and ask for an application form, or download the form online. You will need a phone or written referral from your doctor, nurse, community worker, or the Canberra Blind Society.

Materials available to members of the Home Library Service include:

 Packing the Home Library Service van

  • Books in standard print
  • Books in large print
  • Books on CD
  • Music CDs
  • DVDs
  • Magazines
  • Reader’s Digest in Large Print
  • Languages other than English

 

Library members can also use the library website to browse the catalogue, request items, and search a wide range of electronic resources including full-text magazines and newspapers, and downloadable audio books.

 

Volunteers 

 

Home Library Service deliveries are made by library staff and a large team of volunteers.
