COOL Awards Annual Timeline
Term 1
Nominate your favourite Australian books
The COOL Awards are a chance to let us know what books you like to read. In term 1 you can nominate your favourite Australian books for the annual COOL Awards short list.
The books you nominate as your favourites will be put together with nominations from other schools and libraries across Australia. The ten most popular books in each category will appear on the short list for that year.
The four categories are:
1. Picture Books
2. Fiction for younger readers
3. Fiction for older readers
4. Fiction for grades 7 – 9
In term 2 a poster with the books on this short list will be up in public libraries in the ACT and sent to ACT schools for display.
How to nominate:
- Anyone who is in kindergarten to grade 9 can nominate books
- Nominations are made on this website
- Books nominated must be:
-
- Written by an Australian author
- A fictional story
- First published in the last 10 years
- Not a previous COOL Awards winner
Terms 2 and 3
Read the books that made it to the COOL Awards short list
We encourage you to discuss and debate your ideas on what makes a good book and to go your local public library to borrow books.
If you don’t like reading you can listen to the stories being read aloud by borrowing an audio book or downloading an eBook or eAudio Book.

Term 4
Vote for you favourite book - This year voting will be open from Monday 19 September - Wednesday 26 October 2011.
Vote for your favourite book from the top 10 shortlist in the following categories:
1. Picture Books
2. Fiction for younger readers
3. Fiction for older readers
4. Fiction for grades 7 – 9
How to vote:
- Anyone who is in kKindergarten to grade 9 can vote
- Votes are made on this website
- Pick the book you like best in your category
The final day for voting is Universal Children's Day in October. The winners of each category are announced in November.
