Denise Sutherland is a Canberra puzzle-writer, author and artist. She is married to Ralph Sutherland, an astronomer at the Australian National University; their children Rodger and Jenny feature in some photographs.
Denise’s father Barry Newell is an astrophysicist and was the Administrator of Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatories of the Australian National University. The family lived first at house no. 3, which subsequently survived the 2003 bushfire, then from about 1984 to 1991 at house no. 9. This house was removed by the ANU in the late 1990s.
The two photographs taken in 2003 are also included in HMSS 0314, Denise’s booklet of photographs of Mt Stromlo Observatory after the bushfires.
