The Canberra Sailing Club, with the RMC Boat Club, operated at Gearys Gap on Lake George during the 1950s. The Canberra Yacht Club was formed in September 1959, and operated on Lake George until it moved to Lake Burley Griffin in the summer of 1964-1965.

As part of the process of recording the history of the Canberra Yacht Club in two books, From Lake George to Lake Burley Griffin (ACT Heritage Library H 797.124 FROM) and Capital Sailing (ACT Heritage Library H 797.12409947 FOSK), the Club scanned 76 images of sailing on Lake George in the 1950s and 1960s. The photographs originate from various sources but are now part of the Canberra Yacht Club collection.

The scanned images are black and white .jpg and .tif at 152 dpi, stored on a CD.

A second CD of images, 1963-1975, covers yachting activities and significant Lake Burley Griffin events such as the construction of Scrivener Dam, the valve closing ceremony, the first sailing event on the lake, and some general views of lakeside buildings. These images are mainly black and white, with some colour images from 1965 to 1975.
