The ACT was devastated by bushfires in January 2003.  The worst day was Saturday January 18 when many houses were destroyed and lives were lost.

From January 21 until February 1 2003, Caroline Fletcher, who lived in Duffy, one of the worst affected suburbs, along with Jill Burdon and Chloe Pape sat at the local regional shopping centre, Cooleman Court and gathered personal accounts of the fires.

Some contributors were prepared to identify themselves, others preferred to remain anonymous.  The women rostered took notes of conversations and comments and accepted written contributions.

All can be found in this collection.  There is also a VHS recording "Canberra Fire, Saturday January 18 2003, Sunday 19 January 2003".  The video recording documents the death of animals and danger to those removing them.
