These are the papers of the late Professor Erwin Koch-Emmery, a member of the Australian Goethe Society (ACT Branch). They include notices of meetings, lectures, and other functions, some minutes and financial reports, correspondence, lists of members, lists of winners of the Goethe Competition, and some papers relating to other cultural organisations in Canberra, mainly the Ethnic Council of the ACT. There is also a full set of papers relating to the 1986 Goethe Competition. The papers are in English and German.

The Australian Goethe Society (ACT Branch) consisted of volunteers who provided cultural activities for members and others interested in German ideas and heritage, under the auspices of the Goethe Institute. The Institute withdrew from Canberra activities about 1997, and in that year the Australian-German Institute, generally known as Das Zentrum, was founded to fill the gap, also taking over the Goethe Institute’s extensive local library and resource material.
