HMSS 0166 Eddison Family Papers

Papers of Anthony Hill, 1975-2003 – National Library of Australia

This collection contains papers associated with the research, writing and editing of Anthony Hill’s novel For Love of Country. The book focuses on the Eddison soldier-settler family of Woden in the Australian Capital Territory and the hardships they endured, especially during the Second World War. All three sons of Walter and Marion Eddison, Frank Leslie Herbert "Tom" Eddison, Edward Dalkeith "Keith" Eddison and Jack Obaldestone Eddison, joined the armed forces in World War 2 and made the ultimate sacrifice.

The collection is broken into three series: original research files, which are organised by subject; chapter files; and working papers. The original research files are arranged by eras researched. The chapter files contain similar material to the research files plus additional and supplementary information, grouped according to the structure of the book. These chapter files contain the working draft of each chapter as it was composed. The working papers series contains transcriptions of interviews, completed drafts, proofs and correspondence.

Files and papers refer to the novel's working titles Aftermath, Sacrifice or Blood Sacrifice.  The final title For Love of Country was not settled on until completion of the manuscript.

Papers are arranged and described by the author.
