Canberra Stereo Public Radio (CSPR) came together in October 1982 to form a steering committee with the intention of establishing an FM stereo public radio station to cater for those people in Canberra and Queanbeyan who participate in or have an interest in arts, music and cultural affairs.

CSPR is managed by a Board of Management. In December 1983 the station mounted a successful test transmission, which demonstrated a need for the service, its ability to provide first rate programming, and the enthusiasm of the audience for this proposal.

CSPR operates as ArtSound FM.
