The Organic Gardening and Farming Society of the ACT commenced operations in 1978. In 1982 they changed their name to Canberra Organic Growers’ Society.

 

The objects of the society are to –

1  Foster the use of organic methods in horticulture and agriculture

2  Provide a forum for discussion of matters of interest to organic growers of the ACT and neighbouring districts

3  Provide community gardens operated under organic agricultural principals for recreational, educational and rehabilitation purposes.

The society discussed incorporation from February 1985 and became incorporated as a society on 20th November 1985.

 

The society holds monthly meetings at Dickson Library at which interesting speakers share their knowledge with members and visitors on subjects related to organic gardening and farming. Homesteading and self-sufficiency and other related subjects. The society also publishes a monthly newsletter, organizes excursions and on an occasional basis, specialist seminars. The society also has a library for use by members.
