These papers document the campaign in the ACT for a separate Education Authority from NSW which had been in charge of ACT education since 1927. The campaign was conducted between 1964 and 1973-1980 by interested members of the community who formed themselves into lobby groups. Separation from NSW was achieved in 1973 when Mr Kim Beazley (Senior) became Minister for Education in the Federal Government.

The papers comprise manuscript, printed paper and cuttings from the Canberra Times. The campaign was supported by the then Editor of the Canberra Times, John Allen.

The papers were donated by Mrs C Blackers of Campbell ACT who also wrote a Masters thesis on this topic.
