The ACT was granted self-government on 11 May 1989. Prior to that, the ACT was administered by the Commonwealth of Australia and its public servants were Commonwealth public servants.
The ACT Public Service was separated from the Commonwealth Public Service under the Commonwealth’s Australian Capital Territory Government Service (Consequential Provisions) Act 1994 and the ACT’s Public Sector Management ACT 1994 and Public Sector Management (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Act 1994.
Separation occurred on 1 July 1994.
This collection contains items documenting the transition to an ACT Government Service.
