The use of volunteers allows the community to become involved in initiating, enhancing and extending ACT Library and Information Services.

Sample of Volunteer Jobs availableWhat are you interested in? ACT Public LibraryThe ACT Public Library provides a library and information service to the citizens of the ACT. Volunteer work includes: shelving library materials, making sure that books are in order on the shelves, repairing books and AV material, helping library patrons use the Internet, designing and setting up displays, helping with storytime, assessing library collections in an area of expertise. ACT Heritage LibraryThe purpose of the Heritage Library is to collect, maintain and provide access to the documentary history and development of Canberra and region. Volunteer work includes: sorting ephemera and photos, indexing the Canberra Times, typing information onto the database. Collection Management UnitThe purpose of the unit is to select, order, receive, catalogue, classify and make material ready for loan. Volunteer work includes: covering books, adhering labels, repackaging audio visual material, and generally getting material ready for loan. Home Library ServiceThe purpose of the unit is to make library materials available to the house bound. Volunteer work includes: delivering library material to one or two people in your area every fortnight, or in the unit itself in the Griffith Library, preparing material for delivery, rewinding tapes, shelving library material.
