LANGUAGE COLLECTIONS IN THE ACT

The ACT Public Library has 18 collections in languages other then English. Magazines and Newspapers are also available in other languages. If you are looking for more resources try the collections described below. You can read the items in these collections in the library of each organisation. However, if you wish to borrow, you may be able to organise an Inter Library Loan through any ACT Public Library.

NATIONAL LIBRARY OF AUSTRALIA COLLECTIONS


The National Library of Australia  has many language collections, for example the Asian Collection includes Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean. Khmer, Thai and Vietnamese.


EDUCATIONAL ORGANISATIONS


Canberra Institute of Technology ( CIT)
The CIT Library has resources for students learning English and other languages.

Australian National University
The University has large collection of material relating to Asia (including Arabic) and the Pacific, and other modern languages including Polish and Russian.

The University specialises in Japanese, Spanish, Chinese and ESL.

Iranian-Persian Cultural Foundation

This collection of 5000 items includes Persian writers and poets, art, architecture , history, philosophy, religions of the world and translated novels from other languages into Persian.

COMMUNITY COLLECTIONS

Some groups have collections available through their clubs. Some religious organisations also have collections which can be accessed – for example the Hindu Temple, the Cultural Centre in Florey, the Mandir Library (Cnr Ainsworth St. & Mawson Dr.) and the Canberra Islamic Centre in Monash.

EMBASSIES AND FOREIGN MISSIONS

Many Embassies have libraries and resource collections available for people to use. These materials may be in the language of the country but also in English.
