About the Home Library Service

The Home Library Service of the ACT Public Library gives aged, ill or disabled people access to library materials in their homes.

Who is eligible for Home Library Service?
Some readers are housebound for brief periods, while recuperating after an operation or suffering from a broken bone. Others are more permanently housebound or unable to get to the library easily through age or lack of mobility. These people are eligible for the Home Library Service.

How to register for Home Library Service
Applications forms are available in the public libraries around Canberra. A referral from a doctor, community nurse, optometrist etc. is necessary. If the potential customer is unable to visit a library ring the Home Library Service on 62059000 and an assessment will be made.

Interested in Volunteering?
The Home Library Service has over 500 customers and some 70 volunteers delivering to about 150 people in the ACT. Each volunteer has a few customers who receive a delivery from their nearest public library via the volunteer. Volunteers can choose the suburbs to which they would like to deliver. How to become a volunteer.

Volunteers are always needed to help with this community service. If you have a couple of hours a fortnight to deliver joy to someone in your neighborhood, please consider becoming a volunteer and phone the Home Library Service on 62059000, or fill out application form.
